The pace formulas
Pace = Time / Distance · · · Time = Pace × Distance · · · Distance = Time / Pace · · · min/mile = min/km × 1.609344 · · · Speed = 3,600 / Seconds per km or mile
The calculator works in seconds. Time is hours × 3,600 + minutes × 60 + seconds, and pace is minutes × 60 + seconds per mile or per km. All three use the unit you pick at the top. The pace converter switches units with the exact 1 mile = 1.609344 km, rounds the pace to the nearest second and the speed to 2 decimal places.
Worked example
Run 6.2 miles in 50 minutes and the pace is 3,000 ÷ 6.2 = 483.9 seconds a mile, shown as 8:04 per mile. A 13.1-mile half marathon in 2:00:00 takes 7,200 ÷ 13.1 = 549.6 seconds a mile, which the calculator shows as 9:10 per mile. Holding 9:09 per mile brings you in just under two hours. In the pace converter, 5:00 per km is 8:03 per mile, 12 km/h and 7.46 mph. 8:00 per mile is 4:58 per km, 12.07 km/h and 7.5 mph.

What is goal pace?
The pace you need to hold to finish a race in a target time. Choose Pace, enter the race distance and your target time, and the result is that pace.
How do I convert km pace to mile pace?
Use the pace converter under the calculator. NIST defines a mile as 1.609344 kilometers, so it multiplies a pace per km by 1.609344 to get the pace per mile. 5:00 per km is 300 × 1.609344 = 482.8 seconds, about 8:03 per mile.
Can I enter more than 59 minutes or seconds?
Yes. The calculator adds the fields up, so 0 h 90 min 0 s is the same time as 1 h 30 min 0 s. Every field needs a number, so type 0 rather than leaving one empty.
