The pace formulas
Pace = Time / Distance · · · Time = Pace × Distance · · · Distance = Time / Pace
All three variables are interchangeable. Convert pace to a consistent unit (e.g., min:sec per mile) before plugging in.
Worked example
Run 6.2 miles (10K) in 50 minutes: pace = 50 / 6.2 ≈ 8:04 min/mile. Targeting a sub-2-hour half marathon (13.1 miles): pace must be ≤ 9:09 min/mile.

What is goal pace?
The pace you need to hold to finish a target race in a target time. Calculated from desired finish time divided by race distance.
How do I convert km pace to mile pace?
Multiply min/km pace by 1.609 to get min/mile. Or use the calculator's built-in unit converter. A 5:00 min/km is roughly 8:03 min/mile.
What pace should I train at?
Most coaching plans use a mix: easy runs at 60–90 seconds/mile slower than race pace, tempo runs at race pace, and intervals significantly faster. See our zone 2 blog post for more.
