How to use the Healthy Weight Calculator

  1. Enter your inputs into the Healthy Weight Calculator above.
  2. Results update instantly as you type — no submit button needed.
  3. Adjust any value to see how the result changes in real time.

The healthy weight range formula

Low end: 18.5 × (height_m)² · · · High end: 24.9 × (height_m)²

A BMI of 18.5–24.9 is classified as healthy. Multiply by your height in meters squared to convert the BMI range into a weight range in kilograms.

Worked example

A 5'9" (1.75 m) adult: 18.5 × 1.75² = 56.6 kg (125 lb) low end; 24.9 × 1.75² = 76.3 kg (168 lb) high end. The healthy range spans about 43 pounds at this height.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the healthy range so wide?

Because weight depends on bone structure, muscle mass and body composition — not just height. Two healthy adults at the same height can easily differ by 30 pounds.

Does ethnicity affect healthy weight?

Yes. WHO recommends adjusted thresholds for South Asian populations (overweight at BMI 23+, obese at 27.5+) due to higher cardiometabolic risk at lower BMI in this group.

Is BMI the only measure to track?

No. Waist circumference, body fat percentage and metabolic markers (blood pressure, A1C, lipids) add important detail. Two people at identical BMIs can have very different health profiles.
