About this shift
The shift starts in the small hours and ends in the afternoon on the same date. It doesn't cross midnight, so the hours are a plain subtraction. From 2am to noon is 10 hours, and from noon to 4pm is 4 hours.
14 hours is 2 hours longer than a 12-hour shift. If you worked it as two separate shifts, enter each one on its own line in the hours calculator so each gets its own break.
If you take a 30-minute unpaid break, 13 hours 30 minutes remain, which a timesheet in decimal hours shows as 13.5. The 30 minutes is an example, not a legal rule. Break and overtime rules depend on your contract and where you work. This page gives clock time only.
How the hours are worked out
- Write both times in 24-hour form: 02:00 and 16:00.
- Subtract. 16:00 − 02:00 = 14:00, which is 14 hours.
- For minutes, 14 × 60 = 840. For decimal hours, 840 ÷ 60 = 14.
- With the break, 840 − 30 = 810 minutes, or 13 hours 30 minutes.
