About this shift
The shift starts in the small hours and ends in the evening on the same date. It doesn't cross midnight, so the hours are a plain subtraction. From 2am to noon is 10 hours, and from noon to 5pm is 5 hours.
15 hours is 3 hours longer than a 12-hour shift. If you worked it as two separate shifts, enter each one on its own line in the hours calculator so each gets its own break.
If you take a 30-minute unpaid break, 14 hours 30 minutes remain, which a timesheet in decimal hours shows as 14.5. The 30 minutes is an example, not a legal rule. Break and overtime rules depend on your contract and where you work. This page gives clock time only.
How the hours are worked out
- Write both times in 24-hour form: 02:00 and 17:00.
- Subtract. 17:00 − 02:00 = 15:00, which is 15 hours.
- For minutes, 15 × 60 = 900. For decimal hours, 900 ÷ 60 = 15.
- With the break, 900 − 30 = 870 minutes, or 14 hours 30 minutes.
